The Sweetwater Union High School District (SUHSD) Purchasing Department recognizes purchasing as a profession and adopts the Code of Ethics promulgated by the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing (NIGP). The following ethical principles govern the conduct of the department:

Give first consideration to Sweetwater Union High School District’s mission and polices.

Strive to obtain maximum value for each dollar spent.

Decline personal favors, gifts, and gratuities. Grant all competitive suppliers fair and equal consideration.

Conduct business with potential and current suppliers in an atmosphere of good faith.

Demand honesty in sales representation whether offered through the medium of a verbal or written statement, an advertisement, or a sample of the product.

Create an environment of fair, ethical, and legal business practices.


The chief function of the purchasing department is to provide an efficient centralized service to all schools and departments in the procurement and delivery of supplies, services and equipment in support of the district’s educational programs, within budgetary limitations, and in compliance with federal and state laws.

The Department of Purchasing is responsible for procuring supplies, equipment and services districtwide; manages distribution of supplies, equipment, furniture and textbooks.
